Fishing with Kingsley last January on Victoria BC waters defined another expression of “ a slice of heaven”.

I truly was fishing with “the King”, as evidence by the knowledge and experience of finding fish and having the proper equipment and lures to attract the catch to despite the interest from neighboring seals for their daily brunch.

The success for catching some beautiful King Salmon was evident very quickly after dropping our lines and  tracking across the various banks and shoals around the harbor and out into the ocean.

Very impressed with the diesel powered fibreglass shamrock Kingsley perfectly named Kingsize!  Made getting to the fishing holes a breeze and turned our fishing trip into a catching adventure.  By midday we were already releasing fish as we caught our limit.  Had an epic encounter with whales on our ride back into the marina too.  Would recommend Kingsize Charters to anyone looking for a safe and enjoyable day on the water.

Over the past several years I have gone on many fishing charters with colleagues within  my firm. We have used a number of different charter companies with mixed reviews. And that is why I can say that my decision to bid at a charity auction on a charter hosted by King proved to be one of the best experiences I have had in many years. King hosted my wife and daughter (who had never fished before) and myself to an absolutely delightful and relaxing day on the water. I was particularly pleased with how he made the experience for my wife and daughter a very special memory for our family. Fishing is my passion and has been my whole life. I was hoping to fish with a pro and learn.  I was not disappointed. …  I wish I could have video recorded the whole day so I could review it over and over.  It is so impressive to watch someone who totally knows their trade and it is obvious right away that Kingsley is a true pro. 

The boat was totally prepared before I arrived at 7 am. We left Oak Bay Marina and right away we were treated with a pod of Orcas swimming off the port side on the way to the first fishing spot. Upon arriving Kingsley quickly produced 2 rods that were ready to go in a quest to catch cohos. We managed to catch 3, unfortunately they were all wild so we had to release them. 

Next we setup for halibut, once again Kingsley produced 4 rods previously setup.  I was particularly interested in this fishery as I have not done it before. Kingsley was extremely proficient in setting the anchor in 500 feet of water and getting all the rods out quickly. He never stops… he is either driving or  adjusting the gear constantly. Unfortunately we did not catch any halibut, but we did release two very large skates and we watched a large humpback whale swim by. 

Our last stop was a jigging spot Kingsley knows of. Once again the rods were already setup for this purpose. Within a few minutes I had hooked into a 7 - 8 pound spring. It is so exhilarating to catch  salmon while holding the rod in your hand. We managed to catch our limit in less than an hour. Kingsley kept repositioning the boat to put us right on top of the school. It was one of the best fishing experiencing of my life, bar none. I will be telling my fishing buddies about this trip for many years.

I have had the pleasure of being included on a number of trips with " The  King ", both fresh water, near my home in the 1000 Islands of Ontario, and salt, out of Naples, Fl. Each and every excursion was a gem, but my last tour out of Victoria, my first  in Pacific waters, was another good one......I am by no means a fish guru but I know when the ships master is on his game." "What makes fishing with King special?" "Well, it's beyond his encyclopedic fishing knowledge, beyond his success rate, it is about personality and character. Fishing with King is simply one of the most satisfying outings you can have. The day on the water is only the start. After the catch is filleted and iced, finishing off the afternoon on the dock with a boiling pot of Dungenous Crab is a great excuse to linger at Oak Bay Marina. King's approach to the game is warm, personal and instructive. Not only will you take home a wonderful, mouth watering memory, but at the end of the day, you will be a better fisherman.

As an Ontarian on vacation in Victoria who loves to fish, the part of our trip I was most looking forward to was my fishing excursion with Kingsize Adventures. The trip did not disappoint! It was a great day on the water, with a knowledgable captain who knew all the best fishing spots, baits and techniques for catching some spectacular fish. By day's end we all had a catch to be proud of, including salmon and my own king-sized halibut. Kingsley made sure I had a bounty of fish to share with friends and family at home.
